Tommy's Music / The Source

Tommy’s Music is a series of five paintings of images inspired by three of Tommy’s own compositions and two tunes I associate with him. Inspired by listening to Tommy playing the tunes, not by the literal titles of the tunes themselves - the titles and content of the paintings represent and symbolise the emotions present in the tunes as Tommy played them.

The Source is a series of narrative portraits of fiddle players who were my current influences musically at the time, and are all associated with, or influenced by Tommy. This part of the exhibition also includes the title portrait of Tommy himself "Tommy’s Music / The Source".

The paintings formed a touring solo exhibition in 1997 at the following venues in Ireland: The Kennedy Gallery, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, the Willie Clancy Summer School of Traditional Music, Milltown Malbay, Co Clare, and Galway Arts Festival.
