Caisleáin
Óir
Caisleáin Óir translates literally
as Castles of Gold or Golden Castles, but the meaning is synonymous with
the saying to "build castles in the air" meaning to have dreams
that seem impossible, or improbable, of achievement. Yet it seems to me,
the people in these paintings have all built their castles in the air,
whether or not their achievement is recognised by themselves, or by
others. This exhibition is above all, a celebration of the excitement,
joy, and beauty that these people express through their music and their
dancing. The paintings formed a
touring solo exhibition in 2000 at the following venues in Ireland: The
Kennedy Gallery, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, and the Willie Clancy Summer
School of Traditional Music, Milltown Malbay, Co Clare.
